Naja, es gibt die BL Pickups in unterschiedlichsten Ausführungen, und im Falle der L-500:

Aber die Quintessenz ist:
The L-500 Series is available in four different options:
the L-500 C (Clean) / L-500R (Regular) / L-500L (Lead) / L-500XL (ExtraLead)
L-500's are designed to deliver as much output passively whilst maintaining clarity and without sterility. If even higher output is required, EMG active pickups are recommended.
To deliver great tonal flexibility, the lead/bridge versions (L & XL) especially are recommended to be used in conjunction with the Q-Filter.
The L-500 comes in four versions:
C = 2.8 Henry
R = 4.8 Henry
L = 6.8 Henry
XL = 9.2 Henry
The XL requires at least 500K pots, whereas the other 500s can be used with 250K or 500K pots (all audio taper).
All 500's are extremely loud and therefore don't really mix well with other pickups. The XL without the load of the controls is ear-piercingly bright, but with a 500 kilo ohm pot loses about 50 percent of the higher end. With the EQ Filter [(Q-Filter)], you can gradually [effectively] reduce the inductance of the XL and get a tremendous variety of sounds.
The L with 250K pots is tonally voiced very similarly to the XL with 500K pots, but theres not quite as much punch. And if you employ a Q-Filter, theres not as much bandwidth to operate on, which means that the tonal variation that can be achieved is not as extensive as for the XL.
Die L-90 hingegen sind noch ein wenig zahmer, dafür angeblich artikulierter:

My first impression of the L-90, in direct comparison to the L-500 with almost exact height setups, is that it has clearer highs and clearer lows. The mids are a little more "scooped" but not in DiMarzio / SD territory. It does not have as much volume as the L-500 and lacks the push of the bass/lows. However, it is simply more transparent and allows more of the guitar to shine through. Please keep in mind, though, that the L-500 is a 9/10 in the search for the world's best pickup. I believe that the L-90 is going to exceed the L-500 to perhaps the 9.25/9.3 range. The L-90 is not going to make the L-500 obsolete. However, it's taking the best qualities of the L-500, turning the volume down a notch or two but trading it off for clarity. That's probably the best statement I can give for the differences. You're going to get more headroom with the L-90s. The L-500s will be more "in your face". You should be able to accomplish the same with sounds L-90s but you'll need your amp to step up in the process. But that goes to show that your sound is compromised of several links in the chain and that the pickup is just one link.
Bottom Line laut dem Thread L90:
1. has more clarity
2. has less lows
3. is more articulate
4. has more headroom
5. has less volume
