Hi Werner,
I cannot speak for products of other manufacturers but every unit's design (including amongst our own products) is different. Further I would imagine that the connections to all have varied to some degree (which effects ground). And this is it is important to note as with grounding, it is not
just about a given device's own grounding in isolation but
also the grounding paths used by
each individual device connected to/from it as well as all interconnected devices work together as a
system.
So I think a few things need to be looked at more closely here before any real determination can be made.
1) The earth ground issue is, at this point, an unknown so that needs to be verified first. Again if the Forte is not properly grounded, (safety issues aside for a moment) it is feasible, depending upon on the connections, that static electricity discharge is essentially left no proper 'exit path' except via the audio outs; this is what the 3rd wire provides. Note too, static is more prone in colder/dryer seasons.
Some specific things to look at specifically here:
- Are you using the factory supplied AC power cord? and is the cord in tact? (ie have all 3 prongs?) - or has the cable been somehow modified?
- Are you connecting directly to the wall AC? or via some intermediary AC distribution? (maybe a power strip? line conditioner or similar unit between the Forte and the wall?) If so, is THIS device properly grounded with its 3rd wire in tact?
- Similarly to the above, are you possibly running the Forte AC power via a long extension cord? Static immunity is substantially improved by correct use of a short power cord (like the one supplied vs a long extension) to a properly grounded 3-pin outlet.
- Is the outlet to where the Forte is ultimately being connected properly grounded? This might be something best checked by an electrician.
2) Does the Forte exhibit these noise bursts when used at home or in the studio vs on gigs?
3) Along with #2 above, does the Forte exhibit this problem if you play it with
only power connected (properly grounded) and headphones connected directly to its own headphone output? ie no other devices connected (no pedals, audio out, audio in, USB, MIDI, etc).
Sorry this is not simpler to sort but I think answers to the above will help point us in the right direction.
Please let me know on these items when you can.
Best Regards,
Jean Robert Bellefeuille
