hi!
hier habe ich - falls es noch jemanden interessiert - ein paar gute infos zu den verschiedenen blackface-bassmans gefunden:
"I too have a '65 Bassman head. Be careful when/if you purchase one as many of the circuit tags are wrong ... Fender just kept applying old circuit charts until they ran out.
I have the AA165 circuit but my tube chart shows "AA864". You have to open up the amp and review the circuit to match it. Mine was made in January of 1965 and is fairly rare, but the best ones were made somewhere between August and December of 1964.
To recap(itulate):
AA864 Sounds best for guitar (to my ear)
AA165 Second best - Almost the AA864 circuit which is preferred.
AB165 Sounds good but many players mod them to AA864 specs. The AB165 really started adding senseless changes to the circuit to add something, but in essence, hurt the overall tone quality in doing so. Mods are not too expensive but worth it. Some do not like/approve of modding an old Bassman head. It is up to you, there are thousands of AB165 Bassman heads out there.
They really do sound nice with guitar."
cheers - 68.
