THE 500TH EMAIL* ABOUT DOOM III
* Not really, but there were a hundred or more that I printed, crumpled into balls and then randomly picked one from a paper bag. Here is the winner:
"Is Doom III’s theme song composed by Tool? I heard rumors about it a while back but after hearing this song I’m even more uncertain. It sounds like it very well could be a Tool track yet I’m still very skeptical. I’ve tried searching for credits and I’ve checked Doom’s website and I still haven’t found any info about it. Hopefully you can help me."

The answer is that the makers of Doom III approached Adam Jones, not Tool, to see if he’d be interested in composing the theme song. Due to contractual differences involving legal issues, Adam decided against it. Personally, I have not heard the music (who has the time, what with printing and crumpling all those emails to select a wiiner), but because of the many letters I’ve received from people wondering if it is in fact Tool, perhaps, as many emailers have suggested, the Doom III people found someone with the ability to sound similar to Adam, or the band Tool to compose the music. That or it’s just wishful thinking on the part of some Tool fans after seeing all the rumors on the NET claiming that a source close to the band had all but confirmed that either Adam or the band, itself, would be composing the theme song. So, we can put this one to bed. And speaking of beds…

Ich spreche von dem Tool "Lied" auf der Aenima! Hab mich schon lang gefragt was das soll und deshalb:
Weiß zufällig wer ob hinter dem Lied noch mehr steckt als nur Blödelei? Und weiß wer wie der Deutsche heißt der darin spricht? Und kann mir vielleicht jemand sonst noch Informationen zu diesem Lied geben?

Hört sich aber gar nicht schweizerisch an! Ich glaub sogar irgendeinen deutschen Dialekt herauszuhören. (bei "in ein befettetes Backblesch legen" zB)

Bei der undeutlichen Aussprache von "beffeddedes backblesch" denk ich an jemanden der deutsch nicht als muttersprache gelernt hat, der rest ist so natürlich nicht.

Aber ich finde einfach dass DEVS irgendwie überhaupt nicht zum Stil von Tool passen. Viel zu stuoide irgendwie! Ich kann mir Maynard nicht dabei vorstellen wie er erst toternst solche Lieder wie Aenima usw singt und dann solchen Stuss wie bei diesem song kreiert. Mal ganz abgesehen davon dass ich mir Maynard gar nicht lachend vorstellen kann.

Der Song sollte ja auch nur ein Gag sein. Haben sie anno 96 als die Platte rauskam (zumindest in der deutschen Presse) so dargestellt. In den USA hielten das viele für irgendeine alte nazi rede, klingt ja auch recht martialisch. Für uns ist des halt klar, dass da einer nur ein Haschkeksrezept vorliest und im Hintergrund immer "Heil!" gerufen wird. Da kann man unheimlich viel reininterpretieren - oder am Besten gar nix!

ok, hab mich mal schlau gemacht ... das kommt daher weil "die eier von satan" auf englisch "satans balls" heißt ... dies wiederrum ist eine bezeichnung für space cookies, womit wir bei haschkeksen wären. der sprechgesang stammt, wie schon gesagt, von irgendnem schweizer ....

Lead singer Maynard Keenan wrote this. It sounds kind of ridiculous because it is in German, but once you understand what he's actually saying it's quite funny and meaningful. The majority of people listening to this song are going to hear a passionate German speaker and an enraptured, cheering crowed, which they will automatically associate to Hitler his many public speeches. The lyrics, however, are nothing but a recipe for a dessert called "The Balls (Eggs) of Satan." Throughout the speech Maynard is heard saying the phrase, "Und kine Eier." Which means " And no eggs." This is where it gets confusing. Eggs actually DO represent the Jewish people. Eggs are an essential baking ingredient because they give the food it's fullness and texture. Historically, the Jews are known to do the same for any culture they integrated themselves into. Without eggs, a recipe is flat, and without Jews, a culture is flat. In the end it is a political statement, knocking Nazism (comparing Hitler's Jewless nation to the Balls of Satan - a recipe which fails without eggs), and a thumb at Americans, who will immediately associate a German speaker to Hitler, even without knowing the text. Halte ich für eine sinnige Interpretation... jedenfalls steckt da auf keinen Fall nur Blödelei dahinter .. immerhin reden wir hier von Tool!

Übrigens wurde es anscheinend von "einem der Leute, die wir wegen unseres fehlenden Bassisten angetestet haben" gesprochen.
