How come you dont play a Chapman Stick?
I get this question a lot there are numerous reasons, here are a few:
Sticks are limited to tapping - Yes, I primarily tap for my solo pieces but I also play finger style and slap too. Both of which are difficult on a stick.
Flipped Tuning - Not into the flipped tuning thing.
Have to wear a strap - Because of the no-body design a stick has to be played with a strap, which to me is very cumbersome. The only time I wear a strap is for a live performance with the band. Otherwise I'm sitting.
Limited Range - Because of the duplication of strings, a 12-string Stick actually has less range than my instruments.
They look stupid - say what you want, but they look stupid to me. Not quite as bad as a Keytar (do a google image search), but pretty close. However, I have been chastised for my oversized instruments, so no worries stickists - I can take it as well as dish it.
