Epiphone Ltd. Ed. "2015" Joe Bonamassa Les Paul Standard w/ Bigsby® Outfit
09.01.2015
With Bigsby® B70, Gibson® Burstbuckers™, and custom Inverness Green finish!
Modern blues legend and GRAMMY™ nominee Joe Bonamassa returns with his third Epiphone Signature Model, the new Epiphone Ltd. Ed. "2015" Joe Bonamassa Les Paul Standard w/Bigsby® Outfit. Featuring a one-of-a-kind Inverness Green color finish, Gibson® Burstbucker™ humbucker pickups, and a classic Bigsby® B70 vibrato along with a Les Paul-classic "Lifton" style hard case. Joe Bonamassa has been part of the "House of Stathopoulo" family since 2011 and worked closely with Epiphone's luthiers at the Epi headquarters in Nashville to create a new Les Paul Standard that incorporated his favorite features from his collection of priceless vintage Les Pauls from the late 50s, this time with a Bigsby® B70 vibrato! Over the last decade, Joe Bonamassa's original fusion of electric blues and rock has inspired a new generation of fans and musicians. Bonamassa is not only a superb and prolific artist but also a genuine music fan--deeply committed to the story and heritage of the many players who have inspired his sound, from Rolling Fork, Mississippi to London. Bonamassa's extraordinary technique and passionate performances have already inspired two signature Limited Edition Epiphone Les Paul Standards, the "Goldtop" and the Les Paul Standard in Pelham Blue. Now, Bonamassa adds a new twist with the Epiphone Ltd. Ed. "2015" Joe Bonamassa Les Paul Standard w/Bigsby® Outfit, the first Epiphone Les Paul signature model with the classic Bigsby® B70 vibrato, especially chosen by Joe to match his own prized vintage Les Paul!
"Sustain for Days:" The new "2015" Joe Bonamassa Les Paul Standard w/Bigsby® Outfit was designed in close cooperation with Joe and includes many of his favorite design details drawn from his collection of vintage Les Paul Standards--designed by Mr. Les Paul himself to "sustain for days." The "2015" has a Mahogany body with the same classic "Les Paul" profile used on all Les Pauls since they were first produced at the Gibson/Epiphone factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The top has a Carved Maple Cap and is finished in Inverness Green at Joe's request. The traditional Mahogany neck has a rounded D-profile with a "1959" shape modeled after Joe's favorite '59 Les Paul Standard and is deep-set into the body and hand-glued. The neck has a 12" radius with a Rosewood fingerboard with "Trapezoid" inlays, a standard 24.75" scale length, 22 medium jumbo frets, and a standard 1 11/16 nut. The truss rod cover has the now familiar Les Paul "bell-shape" with "Bonamassa" engraved in capitol letters and the trademark "Les Paul" signature in gold on the headstock.
Gibson USA Burstbucker™ Pickups: Joe Bonamassa has counted on Gibson Burstbucker humbuckers for all of his Epiphone signature models as well as his rare custom models. Nothing else comes closer to the sound of late 50s hand-wound "PAF"-style humbuckers than Gibson USA Burstbuckers. Joe's new "2015" Epiphone Les Paul features a Burstbucker-2™ in the neck position a slighter hotter-wound Burstbucker-3™ in the bridge position. There's no better match-up than a Les Paul with humbuckers and just like the originals, each Gibson USA Burstbucker humbucker has its own individual "voice" enabling players to develop their own personal tone and style. The original humbucker was first invented and perfected at the Gibson/Epiphone factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Burstbuckers feature unpolished magnets and non-potted coils like the first generation of humbuckers. The myriad of variations in the output and tone of original "Patent Applied For" pickups came from inconsistencies in winding the bobbins, a result of the lack of automatic shutoffs on Gibson's winding machines in the late 1950s. Seth Lover, who invented the humbucker, recalled that original "Patent Applied For" pickups were wound "until they were full." When two coils in a pickup have a different number of turns, that variation puts a little "edge" or "bite" on the classic humbucker sound.
Controls for the new Ltd. Ed. Epiphone "2015" Joe Bonamassa Les Paul Standard w/Bigsby® Outfit feature the now-classic set of mismatched Gold "Top Hat" knobs for the bridge and neck pickup controls, just like Joe's favorite '59 Les Paul Standard. Epiphone's patent-applied-for
LockTone™ Tune-o-matic bridge and the rock standard Bigsby® vibrato along with premium Grover™ machine heads with a 18:1 tuning ratio, make set-up and intonation easy and rock solid. And of course, the Joe Bonamassa "2015" Les Paul comes with Epiphone standard solid Nickel hardware, an Epiphone
non-rotating ¼" output jack, and
Epiphone StrapLocks. And to complete the look of Joe's priceless vintage Les Pauls,
Joe's new "2015" Epiphone Les Paul comes with a classic "Lifton Styled" Hard Shell Case along with a Certificate of Authenticity hand-signed by Joe Bonamassa. Like all Epiphones, the Ltd. Ed. The Epiphone Interview: Monster
09.01.2015
The leader of Mayday steps out with a new Epiphone Les Paul
Epiphone welcomes "Monster," --Wen Shang Yi-- to the House of Stathopoulo's elite group of signature artists. Monster formed Mayday in Taiwan in 1997 and has led the band to four Golden Melody Awards for Best Band thanks to his exciting blues-based solos. Mayday is known throughout Greater China as the King of Concert and the incredible lead guitar playing of Monster has led the band all the way. To celebrate Monster's new Signature Ltd. Ed. Mayday Monster Les Paul available exclusively in China and SEA, Epiphone.com spoke to Monster about his new Les Paul and his influences.
-----------------------
Tell us about designing the Epiphone Ltd. Ed. Mayday Monster Les Paul.
I previously collaborated with the Gibson Custom Shop to release the Gibson Limited Run Mayday Monster Les Paul and it was really well received. I'd like to let more fans have a chance to enjoy playing my signature guitar and when Epiphone reached out to me about creating a limited edition signature guitar for them, I gladly agreed to it.
Why is the Les Paul your favorite guitar model?
When I first started to play rock, it seems that every guitar virtuoso would own a Les Paul and that's how I came to desire owning one myself. In my high school guitar club, one day a senior brought a Les Paul for everyone to try, and that's when I found out how I loved the way a Les Paul sounds--the thickness of the sound, the warmth, as well as the expressiveness for playing rock music.
When did you start to play guitar and what inspired you to play?
My first time to start playing guitar was at age 15 or 16 when I began 9th grade. I saw seniors formed their own bands and that's when I realized that playing your own music could make you feel happy and free, and that's something I certainly enjoy all the time.
How was Mayday formed?
Shin (lead singer), Masa (bass) and Stone (guitar) and I met at the same guitar club in school. We later added Ming (drummer) to complete the band. After that, we wrote some songs, recorded a demo and we pretty much sent a copy to every record label. We were really lucky that famous producer Jonathan Lee from Rock Records contacted us and helped us to release our first album, and we have been playing together ever since.
Who inspired your sound? I believe you are a huge fan of the Beatles.
The Beatles are the band we have always looked up to. What they have done with their music is beyond simply expressing a feeling; their music is full of life inspirations, and their philosophical thoughts of life are still influencing people every day. The way they created and experienced their music were also inspiring to us.
Throughout your music journey as a Mayday member, how hard was it to find your inspiration and to create your music?
These days there are many unique types of music out there. There are avant-garde, fresh sounds you've probably never heard of before. We have always been pushing ourselves hard to try to create new sparkles via our works. However, during that journey, we have come to realize that there are certain core values in music that we always need to keep and to protect: the human touch and the emotions in our songs are what we can't afford to lose during the creation.
The Mayday Nowhere Tour played more than 200 concerts around the world last year. How do you keep your concerts fresh and exciting?
The Mayday Nowhere World Tour did lead us to many cities and countries around the world. For us, every concert is like the first time. We know that many fans are there for the first time to join our live concert. Therefore, we have to do our best to meet their expectations, to inspire them, and to touch them with our music. If we are able to do that, we will also be inspired in return. That's why I'm always excited for every concert and am able to keep myself fresh every time.
You also have plenty of followers in the United States. How did you achieve that?
We just hope that more people around the world could hear Mayday's music and anyone from everywhere could follow us through social media such as Facebook, YouTube or Weibo for our latest updates and music. If we are performing in the USA, we'd certainly hope you would come see our gigs.
We heard that you are currently working on a new album, anything you'd like to share with us on that?
Yes, we are currently writing songs for our ninth album. I'm looking forward to share our works with everyone soon.
Which musicians do you listen to and what kind of music would inspire you to create?
The Beatles are the band that all of us love listening to and have found inspiration from since we were young. All those messages in their songs have always been able to carry us through all the ups and downs in our lives. Every time I watch the Beatles' performances on video, I would pay particular attention to John Lennon's Epiphone Casino as it sounds sweet, that sound is inspiring to me.
Which other guitarists do you admire?
I have many guitar icons: Tak Matsumoto from B'z, Slash, Jimmy Page, Joe Perry... just to name a few. All of them have now entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Besides that, we also realize that there are many great guitarists in this world, no matter if he or she is just a regular musician or someone that simply works behind the scenes. What's great about music is that there are really no limits to where you can enjoy it as long as you share that love and understanding with the others.
Are there any other Epiphone guitar models you are interested in trying out?
I own a large number of Epiphone guitars, including the Casino and the Oasis Supernova models. I really like the quality of Epiphone and I think it provides unique sounds in performance. I am happy that now I also have my signature model for Epiphone, and I believe it will help me to create a lot great music to share with everybody.

The vintage Epiphone Coronet was made at the same time as the ES-335 and the Les Paul Standard, and has since become a Rock & Roll classic all its own. Epiphone Elitist instruments have a worldwide reputation as some of the finest vintage reproduction guitars ever made with exacting standards to finish, electronics, neck profile, and most of all, sound. Working with Epiphone's famed luthiers in Nashville, Tamio Okuda customized his debut signature Coronet to fit his incredible style. Now, the new Ltd. Ed. Gibson USA Pickups: Tamio Okuda chose world famous Gibson USA pickups for his signature Elitist Coronet Custom adding the unique combination of a 50s style "Soapbar" P-90 single coil pickup in the neck position plus a "Dogear" P-90 in the bridge position.
