Hallo zusammen,
heute möchte ich auch mal einen Text zur Diskussion stellen. Er wird zur Musik gesprochen, daher mit freier Struktur. Was meint ihr dazu?
Journey to the South
--------------------
Your life was a mess when you hid in the foreign legion.
They saw you can't kill so they made you a cook.
Burning your best years in the heat of Algeria.
Preparing meals was no piece of cake.
When you returned to Germany no one said "Welcome back!"
You lived from day to day and your bed was only the night.
A first-class homeless man with a veteran's rent,
and when you looked up, there was still the Algerian sky.
Days became weeks, weeks became years,
and years turned into decades.
You grew old, and so you came to the asylum,
where we finally met and we made friends.
The nicest guy in the asylum for the homeless,
always coughing up blood.
The nicest guy in the asylum,
always coughing up your blood.
I took you by car to a legionaries club
where you once fed guests from the garbage bin.
You told me about a village for veterans
and you imagined yourself cooking there again
- a lovely place with a mild climate
somewhere in Southern France.
We drove back to the asylum
and this was likely the last trip from which you'd ever return.
Temperatures fell and the soil was frozen
when you packed your baggage for the last time and left.
You said you're heading to the south, and you'll make it,
but we all knew you were leaving for death.
You said you're heading to the south
but we all knew you were leaving for death.
