John Mayall, the Blues Crusader

John Mayall is an icon in the world of blues music and the Godfather of British blues. A pioneering musician, blues promoter and talent scout for over 50 years, his uncanny knack of picking young, talented musicians and then nurturing them in his bands is the stuff of legend. Under his guidance as leader and sometimes father figure, his groups developed into a blues school of learning par excellence. Many young members became huge stars later on, among them brilliant musicians such as Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Jack Bruce, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Mick Taylor and drummer Jon Hiseman. In Mayall's bands, an incredible 130 musicians have done their apprenticeship and earned their spurs. Top bands like Cream, Fleetwood Mac or Colosseum would never have existed without his inspiration and guidance. Now 80 and showing no signs of slowing down, John Mayall has an amazing back catalogue totalling some 86 albums, and has played over 5000 live concerts all over the world. He is still rated as one of the most influential and respected figures in the international blues and rock scene. This is the first detailed biography of Mayall, illuminating not only his life and career, but also providing deeper, more detailed insights into the development of his many fellow musicians. It follows the young Mayall from the early days of jamming in his tree house as a teenager to the vast tours he undertakes today. Even die-hard blues fans will find a lot of undiscovered anecdotes and stories here, as the book covers all phases of the Mayall's career and not just the 60s.
About the author: Dinu Logoz is a Swiss blues musician with an encyclopedic knowledge of this type of music.

Cheshire, tree house, art school and Korea Early days and the pre Bluesbreakers years, 1933-62
Going to London, crawling up a hill The first Bluesbreakers, 1963-65
Eric, Beano and God The Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton, 1965-66
Greeny and the hard road to Fleetwood Mac The Bluesbreakers with Peter Green, 1966-67
With Mickey from Crusade to Laurel Canyon The bands with Mick Taylor, 1967-69
Turning Points, drum less, more or less The last British and first US-bands; the first Polydor years, 1969-71
Moving on to Jazz The Jazz Blues bands and the final Polydor years, 1971-74
Rock and country, funky, jazz and disco blues The ABC and DJM years, 1975-81
Hard times again. The resurrection of the Bluesbreakers The Memphis Bluesbreaker and the return of Mick Taylor, 1981-84
Entirely re-established, sober and back in business The Bluesbreakers with Coco Montoya (and Walter Trout), 1984-93
The long ride with a good buddy The 15 years of constancy with Buddy Whittington, 1993-2008
That good old rockin' blues The years of ripenesswith Rocky Athas, 2009 to present
All those heroes Influences, idols and role models like J. B. Lenoir, Freddie King, Sonny Boy Williamson, Otis Rush, Albert Ammons, Cripple Clarence Lofton, Elmore James etc.
A sucker for love Women, girls, chicks and ladies
The handyman Guitars, cover artwork, suits and more
Tools and skills John Mayall the singer, the guitarist, the keyboard player, the harmonica player, the songwriter and the organizer
All those Mayalls The family of John Mayall
All those band Band members, recordings, concerts, tours
